Mara Shingleton won the essay contest sponsored by the Butler Township Board of Commissioners.The contest is open to all Butler Township 11th and 12th grade students in the Butler School District. The contest is part of the activities planned for Local Government Week.The Board of Commissioners encourage students from Butler Township to gain an understanding of local government by participating in this contest.Shingleton won $100 toward college textbooks.——
Jaclyn Amurgis, a recent graduate of Mars High School, is the recipient of the 2010 Metro Pittsburgh Pitt Club scholarship granted annually through the University of Pittsburgh's Alumni Association. The award provides a $2,000 gift for Amurgis' freshman year at Pitt.——The following students were honored at the 2010 Recognition Convocation at Grove City College:•
Anna Harp of Grove City was inducted into the Crown and Sceptre, the sophomore women's honorary.•
Ashley Cetnar of Butler won first place in the Swezey/Janicki Scientific Award.•
Caroline Harp of Grove City won the Elinor M. Caruthers French Prize.•
Christopher Brennan of Harmony was honored with Scroll and Key, the scholastic honorary for senior students.•
Christopher Haley of Butler was inducted into the Alpha Theta Mu chapter of Mortar Board, the national senior honorary for senior students.•
Jessica Vernon of Butler was inducted into the Alpha Theta Mu chapter of Mortar Board, the national senior honorary for senior students.•
Jessica Hodge of Grove City was inducted into the Beta Mu circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national honor society.
