The Moniteau Academic Decathlon Team traveled Dec. 4 to Penn State Behrend in Erie to compete in the second of three rounds of the Academic Sports League Competition. Moniteau placed first, followed by Collegiate Academy, Slippery Rock, McDowell and Fairview.

The competition focused on math, super quiz (geology), prepared speech, interview and essay.

Josh Franiewski: first overall in the scholastic division.

Roman Weingartner: third in the varsity division, bronze in both essay and interview and gold in speech.

Jake Taciuch: bronze in essay and silver in super quiz.

Klint Cross: gold in essay.

Amanda Mock: silver in speech and gold in super quiz.

Walker Martz: silver in speech.

John Klecha: bronze in super quiz.

Tim Shearer: gold in super quiz.

Clarissa Kimmey earned honors super quiz medals.

Ally Lazor, 8, won $1,000 for her school, Rowan Elementary, through the seventh annual Edgar Snyder and Associates “My Holiday Wish” coloring contest.The prize money will be used to expand the school’s leveled reading library.
