Hillary Marshall of Boyers was presented with the Bronze Medal for the Most Outstanding Freshman Cadet at Niagara University. She is attending Niagara University on a full ROTC scholarship and was also named to the dean’s list. She is the daughter of Frank and Sharon Marshall of Boyers.
———Andrew P. Kriley of Renfrew was awarded the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Silver ROTC Medal in recognition of outstanding leadership qualities, military bearing and excellence.Kriley is a dean’s list student studying aeronautical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., on a full Navy ROTC scholarship.He is the son of Phillip and Robin Kriley of Renfrew.
———Ariel Wick of West Sunbury was named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. She will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook.The USAA established the All-American Scholar Award Program to recognize superior students who excel academically. Students must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average.The daughter of Roger and Nancy Wick and granddaughter of Bill and Betty Hazlet, all of West Sunbury, Wick is a graduate of Moniteau High School.

Gretchen Wilson and
Zane Barnett, two outstanding eighth grade students of United States history at Butler Junior High School.

Corey Rasp of Moniteau High School, studying refrigeration and AC technology.

Lauren Burke of Valencia participated April 13 in The University of Findlay’s Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity.There, she received an Aristos Eklektos Membership Award and was named to Eta Theta Chapter of Phi Alpha Honor Society.She is a sophomore social work major and a 2008 graduate of Mars High School. She is the daughter of Diane and Steven Burke of Valencia.

Michael Sinko of Mars received the George and Carolyn Arfken Scholarship at Miami (Ohio) University’s physics department. Sinko is a physics and philosophy major.

Sarah Miller of West Sunbury has been accepted at Gannon University, and will begin classes in the fall 2011 semester as a prepharmacy major.Miller is the daughter of Keith and Joloyn Miller and a graduate of Moniteau High School.She is a member of the cross country team, academic decathlon and dance and drill team. Miller was also Miss Butler County USA 2010.

Kyle Uhlman of Butler has accepted admission to the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.Uhlman graduated magna cum laude from Temple University, where he was a history major and business minor.While at Temple, he was a member of the Honors College and the Law Scholars Program. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society and the Golden Key National Honor Society.Following graduation, he entered a law internship with the firm of Duane Morris LLT in Philadelphia, where he currently is employed.A graduate of Butler Catholic School and Vincentian Academy, he is the son of Dr. Steve and Mary Beth Uhlman of Butler.

Stephen Swanson of Renfrew has accepted admission to Edinboro University, where he will study political science and criminal justice.A graduate of Seneca Valley High School, he is the son of Alan and Annette Swanson of Renfrew.

Jaimie Daum of Butler received the Freeman Award, a book award given to the student with the highest average in Organic Chemistry I and II. A graduate of Butler High School, she is a student at Westminster College. She is the daughter of Warren and Darby Daum of Butler.
———Slippery Rock Elementary School held a Battle of the Books competition May 31 with 30 students from grades 3 to 5 participating. The students read 24 books during the school year and met for monthly book discussions during lunch and recess.The Blue team won against the Red team. Blue team members were

Stacey Russell of Butler, a music education major at Cedarville University, recently received The Outstanding Future Music Teacher Award during the University’s Honors Day event.
