Brittany Henderson of Butler and
Benjamin Frances of Butler were named senior honors with distinction students at Butler High School.Brittany was involved in the Sequin-ettes, Honor Society, Student Council and prom committee. She received the Steven Russo Scholarship and lettered in the Sequin-ettes and in the National Honor Society.She is the daughter of Scott and Lori Henderson of Butler. She plans to attend Robert Morris University and major in actuarial science.Benjamin was drum major in the Butler Golden Tornado Band and was involved in the National Honor Society, Brain Drain Games Team, Armstrong Academic Challenge Team, Debate Club and Outdoor Club.He lettered as drum major and received the Golden Tornado Scholarship Foundation Award and the Frank W. Preston Memorial Scholarship.He is the son of Dana Frances of Butler.———
<B>The Butler Area Networking Group (BANG) </B>selected students from Butler and South Butler School Districts for the first BANG Business Scholarship Award of $500 each. Four local students were selected for membership in Indiana (Pa.) University's Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.<B>Kaitlyn Grzywinski</B> of Saxonburg, a math education major. A 2010 graduate of Knoch High School, she is the daughter of Ray and Mary Ann Grzywinski. She is actively involved in IUP's Advising and Testing Center as a note taker.<B>Jamie Czech</B> of Butler, a business major. A 2010 graduate of Knoch High School, she is the daughter of Eric and Barb Czech. She is a member of Phi Beta Lambda, Vice President of the Residence Hall Council, a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary Society, Delta Zeta, the Honors Business Program and a Freshman Cohort Leader. She is also the first place winner of the Common Freshman Reader Essay Contest.<B>Elizabeth Burchanowski </B>of Saxonburg, a music performance major. A 2010 graduate of Knoch High School, she is the daughter of Charlotte Burchanowski. She is a member of St. Thomas Moore University Parish and the Latino Student Association of IUP. She is also involved in various music groups on campus.<B>Katelyn Howard </B>of Sarver, a journalism major. A 2010 graduate of Freeport High School, she is the daughter of John and Susan Howard. She is also a volunteer tutor at the Salvation Army.———
<B>Susan Francino</B> of Renfrew was awarded two scholarships from global manufacturing and technology company Emerson.She is among 30 recipients of the Emerson National Scholarship, awarded annually to children of Emerson employees, and among 10 recipients of the National Merit Emerson Electric Company Scholarship.A student at Seneca Valley High School, she is the daughter of senior marketing engineer Peter Francino at Emerson Process Management Power and Water Solutions in Pittsburgh.She plans to attend Hillsdale College and is enrolled in their honors program.Winners of each scholarship receive $2,000 per academic year for four years.———
<B>Hayley Mack</B> of Valencia has been accepted to the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville for the fall 2011 term. She has been accepted into the nursing program.A 2011 graduate of Mars High School, she is the daughter of Cathy and Ed Mack of Valencia.———
<B>Anna Cessar</B> and <B>Casey Dudek</B>, both juniors at Slippery Rock High School, were selected by the Frank P. Cheeseman Post Unit 393 of the American Legion Auxiliary to attend Keystone Girls State.<B>Katie Rutledge</B>, a junior at Seneca Valley High School, was selected to attend by American Legion Unit 261.The students will attend the event sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary to study government on city, county and state levels June 26 to July 2 at Shippensburg University.Anna is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cessar of Slippery Rock. She is active in National Honor Society, Teen Institute, choir, jazz band, spring musical, basketball, soccer and winter track.Casey is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dudek of Prospect. She is active in National Honor Society, Teen Institute, concert band, spring musical, track TATU and TADA.Katie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Rutledge of Renfrew. She is active in many volunteer programs, archery, fishing, raising her chickens and working part-time. She is also a member of the YMCA Youth and Government Program.———
The following local students were named to the Orientation Committee at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. Sarah DeGeorge of Butler recently completed the “Called to Lead” program at Elizabethtown College, in which students customize their program from an a la carte menu of events, independent reading, experiential learning and academic courses.DeGeorge graduated cum laude in May with a bachelor's in social work.———
<B>Brendan Stewart</B> of Cranberry Township received a Band Performance Certificate at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va. He is the son of Bob and Sandy Stewart of Cranberry Township.
