Kathryn Claudy of Butler received national recognition at the FBLA Awards of Excellence on July 1. A student at Butler High School, Claudy competed in Accounting II and won fifth place.Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL), the largest and oldest student business organization, held its National Leadership Conference in Orlando on June 28 to July 1. Participants attended to sharpen their core business skills, expand their networks, and participate in business and business-related competitive events.———The Westminster College Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble presented joint concerts May 23 to June 2 at several locations in Scotland.The group of 56 students and five adults toured as part of the American Celebration of Music in Scotland program, performing at Corran Esplanade Church in Oban, the Cathedral Church of St. Andrew in Inverness, St. Leonard’s in the Fields Presbyterian Church in Perth, Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh and St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.The following local students participated:
Aaron McAfee of Butler is a senior music education major and plays alto saxophone. He is the son of Kevin and Kimberly McAfee and a graduate of Butler High School.
Gregory Clark of Cranberry Township is a sophomore mathematics and philosophy major and sings bass. He is the son of Jeffrey and Shari Clark and a graduate of Seneca Valley High School.
Victoria Walker of Worthington is a senior music education major and sings soprano, plays horn, and was part of the brass/percussion ensemble. She is the daughter of James and Linda Walker and a graduate of Kittanning High School.———
Alex Brydon of Slippery Rock has accepted admission to Saint Vincent College, where he plans to major in psychology.A graduate of Slippery Rock High School, he is the son of Joe and Denise Brydon.———
Evan Mysliwiec of Butler was granted a full scholarship to attend Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week on the campus of Lycoming College in Williamsport.The program provides an opportunity for students to learn about the American system with the help of educators and business leaders.A junior at Slippery Rock High School, he is the son of Tom and Tammy Mysliwiec.
