Ryan Sacco of Chicora were among a group of 48 teenagers selected to learn about state police operations and government through the annual Commissioner’s Honors Camp held last week at the State Police Academy in Hershey.The cadets, aged 13 to 18, were selected from more than 1,500 teenagers who participated in local Camp Cadet programs last summer.Troopers teach cadets about criminal investigations, police skills, use-of-force and related topics. The camp includes team problem solving activities, sports, a visit to the Capitol, state police headquarters and the Governor’s Residence.The Honor Camp was created more than a decade ago as a reward for the top two cadets from each local program.———

Christopher Znosko, both of East Brady, participated in the Washington, D.C., Youth Tour Program. The students represented Central Electric Cooperative of Parker and spent six days with 87 peers from other Pennsylvania and New Jersey electric cooperatives.Each June, more than 1,500 high school juniors from across the country meet their elected representatives in the U.S. House and Senate, see historic sites and interact with other students. They learn about what it is like to be involved in politics, community service and today’s issues in the energy industry.———Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community announces forty-seven employees have been awarded scholarship grants for the 2011-12 school year.Residents of Sherwood Oaks award scholarship money to employees showing dedication to the pursuit of higher education at college, vocational school or an accredited training program.
