A Fenelton man was arrested Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a young girl six years ago.

State police arrested Nicholas John Snyder, 19, on felony charges of aggravated indecent assault of a child, sexual assault, statutory sexual assault and indecent assault. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on a $25,000 bail.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with the criminal complaint by Trooper Kevin Goss, an 11-year-old girl reported in December that Snyder sexually assaulted her when she was about 5 years old in a house in Fenelton.

During a Dec. 27 interview conducted by Ashley Rummel, a Butler County Alliance for Children forensic interviewer, the girl told police Snyder removed her clothes and his clothes and assaulted her in the basement of the house, according to documents.

Goss said Snyder confirmed that the allegations were true when he interviewed Snyder at the police barracks on Feb. 3.

A preliminary hearing for Snyder has been scheduled Feb. 19 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.

Snyder was ordered to have no contact with minors if he posts bail and is released from prison.
