Two people were scalded with boiling water during a Thursday night break-in in Jackson Township, according to township police.

Walid Kourami, 33, of Pittsburgh, is facing felony charges of burglary, aggravated assault and criminal trespass, plus two misdemeanor counts of simple assault. He was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Police were dispatched at 5:12 p.m. to a home in the 22000 block of Route 19, where Raymond Valentine said Kourami assaulted him, broke several windows and refused to leave his home, according to an affidavit.

Valentine had a severe cut above his right eye and extensive burns to his face, chest, torso and arms. He was flown to UPMC Mercy, according to the affidavit.

He told police Kourami came to his home looking for his girlfriend, who had been staying with Valentine to hide from Kourami.

While police searched another home for Kourami, he appeared at the front door with a cut on his right hand and identified himself as the other party involved. He told police he believed his girlfriend was cheating on him with Valentine. She called him to pick her up, and he believed she might have been in danger, he said. Kourami took an Uber ride from Pittsburgh to Valentine’s home, according to the affidavit.

Kourami said he entered through the unlocked front door and verbally confronted Valentine, and a fight broke out.

The report detailed that he said Valentine took him to the ground and choked him, and he then grabbed a pot of boiling water from the stove top and struck Valentine with it. According to the report, boiling water covered Valentine and splashed on the girlfriend, causing scalding water injuries.

Kourami told police he ran out of the home with Valentine following him. He said Valentine grabbed a shovel and chased him around the yard with it. He said he punched out several windows in the home and the rear window of a vehicle parked in the driveway while he was running around the home, according to the affidavit.

Police said they found the girlfriend in the basement of Valentine’s home with moderate burns on her left arm. She said she was not being held against her will and did not want to be near Kourami.

The girlfriend’s cellphone contained text messages between her and Kourami in which she did not ask him to come to Valentine’s home. However, she provided his address to Kourami, according to the affidavit.

Kourami’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 30 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
