Butler High School student awarded Vogeley Scholarship

Timothy Porter

A Butler High School senior has been selected as recipient of the 36th annual Theodore K. Vogeley Scholarship.

This student was chosen from 40 applicants, twenty of whom were interviewed. The scholarship will cover full tuition, fixed fees, room and board and books.

Timothy Hays Porter is this year’s recipient.

Timothy is the son of John and Heather Porter. Timothy plans attend the University of Pittsburgh to major in materials science and engineering.

The number of Vogeley recipients varies each year due to interest earned on the trust and the costs of the students’ colleges or universities. A committee of three is responsible for selecting the recipients.

Due to the availability of remaining funds, three other students will receive a four-year fixed-amount scholarship and five students will receive one-time grants.

The recipients of the four-year fixed-amount scholarships are: Zachary Freund, $3,000, $12,000 total; Ashlee Shields, $3,000, $12,000 total; and Tarik Taoufik, $6,000, $24,000 total.

The recipients of the one-time grants are:

Brett Brady, $4,000; John Conner Chapla, $4,000; Emma LeMay, $4,000; Erin LeMay, $4,000 and Elijah Peterson, $4,000.
