Holly Boyce won the Butler Township Board of Commissioners essay contest, which encouraged contestants to gain an understanding of local government by writing an essay pertaining to how they believe local government affects quality of life issues.
Boyce attended the township meeting on June 21, where she read her essay. She received $300 toward books for higher education.
Boyce is a graduate of Portersville Christian School and will attend Grove City College to study music and the performing arts, with a concentration in voice.

Ganjofarid Anvarzod of Butler has been accepted for admission to Saint Vincent College to major in graphic design.Anvarzod graduated from First Baptist Christian School. At First Baptist he was a member of the Art Club and involved with Kyokushin Karate and Krav Maga self-defense.He has worked as a volunteer at the Slippery Rock Baptist Camp.———
Hunter Holt of Cranberry Township has been accepted to attend the Experimental Aircraft Association Basic Air Academy in Oshkosh, Wis.Hunter will join others age 14 to 15 from the United States and other countries to meet and work with aviation professionals while living and learning the arts, sciences and lore of aviation in both the classroom and workshop settings.
