HARMONY — A Seneca Valley High School senior has been honored with a National Achievement Scholarship worth $2,500.
Daniella Ortiz of Harmony is among 800 black high school seniors across the country who received the scholarship totaling nearly $2 million. Ortiz’s intended field of study is medicine.
The National Achievement Scholarship Program is a privately financed academic competition to honor scholastically talented black youth.
Students are chosen based on SAT scores and other academic merits.
The program is run by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Kara Angeletti of Mars, John Fetchko of Sarver, Mark Keck and Jennifer Sekowski of Saxonburg and Mindy Stoops of West Sunbury were inducted into the honor society Phi Kappa Phi at Pennsylvania State University.
Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

INDIANA, Pa. — The Sutton Scholars academic achievement scholarship program at Indiana (Pa.) University announced recipients for the 2014-15 academic year, including the following students:
Erin Hilderbrand is the daughter of Janice and Larry Hilderbrand of Fenelton and a senior at Butler High School. She plans to study nutrition.
Chelsea Mars is the daughter of Ryan and Melissa Bonicky of Evans City and a senior at Seneca Valley High School. She plans to study business.
Freshmen applicants with very strong academic promise are chosen for the program after a competitive interview process.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Calli Johns of Fenelton was inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta Business Honor Society at DeVille School of Business at Walsh University.
She is a marketing major and has demonstrated scholastic excellence in her business studies.
Sigma Beta Delta is the international honor society for students in business, management and administration.
