BATON ROUGE, La. — University chapters of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi initiated the following local residents:
Juliene Fern and Megan Wilbert, both of Butler, Caitlin Morahan and Taylor Shenberger, both of Slippery Rock, and Gwen Kildoo of Grove City were initiated at Slippery Rock University.
Jasmine Phelps of Cranberry Township and Andrew Rush of Mars were initiated at Clarion University.
Rose Devine of Mars was initiated at Villanova University and Christina Monnie of Renfrew was initiated at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

BEREA, Ohio — Emily Thomas of Cranberry Township earned induction into the National Communication Association’s Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society at Baldwin Wallace University. Thomas is a broadcasting major.

Julianna Slomer, Janson Doyle and David Kovach received scholarships from the Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni.
Slomer will study pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh.
Doyle will study at Lynchburg College and Slippery Rock University to become a physician assistant.
Kovach will study at West Virginia University to become a physical therapist.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Mara Emory Shingleton of Butler received several honors when she graduated with a bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and in international relations and global affairs from Eckerd College.
Shingleton was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and was also inducted into the national leadership honor society, Omicron Delta Kappa.
Shingleton also received the Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year Award, the President’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service and the ASPEC Shephard-Williams International Relations and Global Affairs Award.
Shingleton graduated from Butler High School in 2010. She is the daughter of Gary and Carrie Shingleton of Butler.

BRADFORD — Mikhalla Cooper of Butler was inducted as an associate member of the Alpha Kappa Chapter Beta Beta Beta, the biological honor society, at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
She is a biology major.

BRADFORD — Kelcey Schaum of Slippery Rock was inducted into Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
She is a psychology major.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Caitlin Cobern and Cameron Lewis, both of Butler, and Wilson Greenfield of Grove City received academic and leadership awards from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Cobern was named the Outstanding Senior in Chemistry.
Lewis received the Outstanding Senior Award in Art.
Greenfield received the Academic and Leadership Award.

BETHANY, W.Va. — Don Bierhals of Cabot will receive the Kalon Leadership Scholarship for Bethany College. The scholarship is a competitive award for incoming freshmen.
Don is a senior at Knoch High School and has been captain of both his cross country and track and field teams. He plans to study communications and media arts at Bethany.
He is the son of Don and Tracey Bierhals.

NEW CASTLE — Scott Putney received a 2014 New Castle School of Trades Scholarship for the combination welding program.
Scott is a student at Moniteau High School.
The scholarship is based on academics and recommendations.

HERMITAGE — Seventh and eighth grade students from Slippery Rock were among students from eight schools that competed in a speech tournament at Thiel College.
In the oral interpretation category, Adeline Birkes took second place and Connor Blue Dorn took third place. Both are from Slippery Rock.
Adeline also won third place in the prepared speaking category.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Amy Achenbach of Butler and Ryan Kissinger of Valencia were acknowledged at the University of Mount Union’s Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation.
Achenbach, a history major, received the National Cabinet of Mount Union Women Scholarship and the Richard L. and Connie VanderMeulen Doyle Prize.
Kissinger, a geology major, received the Harold R. Dillow Geology Prize.

INDIANA, Pa. — Alyssa Miller of Cranberry Township was honored with a Greek Academic Award at Indiana (Pa.) University. She is a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.
A human resource major at IUP, she is a dean’s list student, provost scholar and member of Gamma Sigma Alpha Greek honor society. She volunteered for the Indiana County Humane Society, for American Red Cross blood drives and for the sorority Service for Sight philanthropy.
She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Pre-Law Society and Phi Eta Sigma honors fraternity.
Miller is a 2011 graduate of Seneca Valley High School.
She is the daughter of Christine and Randy Miller.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Jarrod Ellenberger of Karns City, a senior at Karns City High School, and Vincent Gray of Butler, a senior at Knoch High School, were named Leslie H. Cochran University Scholars at Youngstown State University.
It is a full-tuition and room-and-board scholarship.
