YOUTH WRESTLE
Butler’s junior high wrestling team opened the season by winning three of five dual matches at the Norwin Duals Saturday.
The Golden Tornado defeated Plum 53-45, McGuffey 57-39 and North Allegeny Gold 72-22 before falling 67-36 to Kiski Area and 48-36 to Norwin.
Zack Dovenspike went 5-0 with four pins at 145 pounds for Butler while Saavon Mosby was 5-0 with three pins at 250. Jack Codispot (90 pounds), Sam Dietrich (115), Donovan Malovich (122), Christian Sequete (155) and Dane Friedt (185) went 4-1 for the Tornado.
Justin Stewart (110), Cole Friedt (165) and Seth McCrea (210) went 3-2 in the tourney.
Butler elementary wrestler Levi Donnel placed second in the 8-under 55-pound division of the Hopewell Viking Classic Open Wrestling Tournament over the weekend.
Hockey
The Pittsburgh Huskies U18 Class AA team (8-1-1) split a pair of weekend games with the Wheeling Nailers.
The Huskies dropped a 4-2 decision Saturday at Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling as Dustin Davis and Christian Miller scored in a losing cause. Nick Maskozy had two assists. Goaltender Clay Bachman made 24 saves.
Miller scored three goals in Sunday’s 9-2 victory. Davis and Alex Welsh scored two goals each, Holden Earhart and Cody Toy one each. Makozy had three assists, Miller and C.J. Campbell two each. Goaltender Eric Phelps stopped 24 of 26 shots.
