Butler Sting win 16U championship

The Butler Sting 16-under girls softball team won a tournament in Wheeling, W.Va. last weekend. The team won six of its seven games and defeated the Rock Stars (Zanesville, Ohio) 10-1 in the title game on Sunday.

Emily McDonald was the winning pitcher in five of the victories with Clara Stoughton behind the plate.

Taylor Downs led all batters in the tourney with a .556 batting average. She and Noel Pfabe both hit a home run.

Saydie Moore contributed strong defense from her position in left field.

Other team members include Ashley Coon, Anna Heade, Allie Green, Amanda Webb, Kate Barnett and Lexis Vogan.

Scott Pierce is the head coach and Whitney Warmus his assistant.

The squad will now travel to South Carolina to compete in the National Softball Association World Series.
