Freeport district superintendent takes new job

Chris DeVivo

BUFFALO TWP — Freeport School District Superintendent Chris DeVivo has taken another superintendent position closer to his home.

School board members accepted his resignation Wednesday night, effective in August. DeVivo has been with the district for five years.

He will become superintendent in the Armstrong School District serving the Kittanning and surrounding area, where he and his family live.

“He’s been an incredible asset to this school district,” said Dan Lucovich, school board president.

DeVivo said he’s had a great experience at Freeport. “I’ve really enjoyed my time with Freeport,” he said.

DeVivo was to earn $149,000 annually with the July start of a new 5-year contract in Freeport.

He has agreed to a 3-year contract with the Armstrong district for $164,000 per year.

Athletic director leaving

Other personnel transitions in Freeport for next year include athletic director and public relations director Todd O’Shell, who will be leaving for a job with the ABC Transit bus company in Etna.

“I’m excited to take advantage of this new opportunity,” O’Shell said.

O’Shell, who has been with Freeport since 2009, also said he has enjoyed his time with the district.

“This has been a fantastic place for kids to learn and a fantastic opportunity,” he said.

O’Shell said the school board soon will begin the process of finding a replacement for DeVivo, but said those steps have not yet been put in place.

“I’m sure the board will quickly establish the procedures to find his replacement,” O’Shell said.

He added the board may be able to find a new superintendent before DeVivo leaves in mid-August.

“There’s the possibility for some overlap,” he said.

O’Shell said the district is advertising for a replacement for his position, which includes transportation management responsibilities in addition to being athletic director and head of public relations.

High school administrators Michael Kleckner, acting principal, and Daniel Consuegra, acting vice principal, also were approved for permanent positions effective in July.

At Armstrong, DeVivo is replacing Stan Chapp, who also took that position after serving as superintendent in Freeport.
