Kristin Green of Butler was inducted into the Rho Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Butler County Community College. Green, a psychology major, is the daughter of Michael and Ruthann Green of Butler.

JACKSON TWP — Sarah Johanknecht received a college scholarship award and the honor of being named a Carson Scholar. She is a junior at Seneca Valley High School.

Bailyn Bench renewed her Carson Scholar status. She is a senior at Seneca.

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School District Academic Games team competed in the World Events Tournament at the Seneca Valley Middle School in February. Twenty schools participated in the tournament.

Haine Middle School teams placed first, second, and third.

The first place team included Bryce White, Brendan Malloy, Evan Prazenica, Maddalyn DiMichele and Sammi Carter.

The second place team included Simren Jayaraman, Arya Nayak, Benaifer Sepai, Brenna Wrubel and Cameron Ailes.

The third place team included Zach Garcia, Vibha Hodachalli, Nate Trost, Connor Anderson and Dilini Ranaweera.

Haine Middle School also had 10 national qualifiers including Sammi Carter, Brendan Malloy, Arya Nayak, Brenna Wrubel, Zach Garcia, Connor Anderson, Dilini Ranaweera, Anoop Savio, Ryan Jones and Benaifer Sepai.

Sammi Carter had the highest score of the day, Brendan Malloy had the second highest and Arya Nayak had the third highest score of the entire tournament.

The Evans City Middle School team had a team finish in fifth place including Rob Appling, Christian Williams, David Choi, Faith Condrick and Kaitlyn Moore.

Evans City Middle School also had two national qualifiers Andrew Drozynski and Christian Williams.

Seneca Valley Middle School students Mike Beggy, Jacob Geil, Connor McDonald and Brian Vogel qualified in the World Events Tournament.

Students with two or more qualifications in all of the Academic Games Tournaments and who will compete in the national tournament are Seneca Valley Middle School students Tori Beck, Mike Beggy,Rachel Covell,Jacob Geil, Angelo Giannotta,Ben Hess, Jarrett Johnston,Connor McDonald, Jose Ordonez, Vinya Ponugoti, Bailey Salameh, Kate Scanlan, Rishin Sharma, Jonathan Simoes, Dean Smith and Brian Vogel.

JACKSON TWP — Twenty-three Seneca Valley Middle School instrumentalists were selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Junior High District Band Festival at Butler Intermediate High School.

The students are Martina Beggy and Brooke Rashke, flute; Grace Connors and Olivia Otway, oboe; Brian Vogel, bassoon; Olivia Arohnson, Tressa MacPherson, Sophia Ramos and Julie Doherty, clarinet; Hiruni Herat, bass clarinet; Rachel Covell, Tori Beck and Rishin Sharma, alto saxophone; Gavin Tracy, tenor saxophone; Ben Hess, baritone saxophone; Alyssa Tollerton, Nicole Buchek, Bryce Behr and Sydni Roller, trumpet; and Carmyn Talento, Brad Hartman, Greg O’Connor and Michael Griffith, trombone.

More than 300 students from school districts in Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties auditioned.
