Mars grad is Denison scholar
GRANVILLE, Ohio — Logan Wright of Valencia received the Denison Founders Scholarship, a first year merit scholarship, at Denison University.
The Denison Founders Scholarship is based on academic achievement, leadership and personal merit.
Wright is a graduate of Mars High School and a member of the Denison class of 2019.
Theater major recognized
MIDLAND — Jacqueline Appel of Slippery Rock was recognized as a 2015 National Merit Commended Student. She is a senior studying theater at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School.
She placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last year.
She is a daughter of Barb and Keith Appel of Slippery Rock.
Choir qualifiers set SV school record
JACKSON TWP. — Seneca Valley High School achieved a school record when nearly 30 percent of the school’s choir was selected for the Westminster Honor Choir.
The Westminster Honor Choir includes 96 singers from Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. Students from 45 schools auditioned. Members from Seneca Valley are:
Soprano 1: Annie Batista, Caitlin Bliss and Rachel Noah; Soprano 2: Carinne Geil, Emma Walsh, Ava Minutello, Lyndsey Butler and Rachel Carmella
Alto 1: Paige Hurbanek, Anna Stroupe, Jordan Hazy and Katie Lawson; Alto 2: Kim McGinnis and Ashlinn Meechan
Tenor 1: Matt Cosco, Josh Bannon and Jordan Ritchey; Tenor 2: Jon Baktay, Mike Trauman, Jake Pelloni and Mitchell Lachat
Bass 1: Alex Traverso, Josh Hahn and Jake Nehrer; Bass 2: Joseph Brinker, Josh DePasquale, Trey Darak and Charlie Lisella.
The concert will be at Westminster College auditorium at 2 p.m. Oct. 31.
