ADAMS TWP — A Mars School District senior has received the National Merit Scholarship from Purdue University.
Rebecca Dvorak of Gibsonia won the scholarship sponsored by Purdue through the National Merit Scholarship Corp.
According to the university’s website, the scholarship is $1,000 each year and is renewable for students in good academic standing.
Dvorak said industrial engineering is what she will likely study at Purdue.
To be eligible for the scholarship, Dvorak had to be a National Merit Finalist and list Purdue as her first-choice institution.
In total, 176 colleges and universities sponsor more than 3,800 Merit Scholarship awards.

SAINT PETER, Minn. — Caitlyn Mueller of East Butler and Hannah Morrow of Butler received Brothers Scholarships, renewable for three years, from The Heritage Group Scholarship Fund.
Mueller plans to attend Butler County Community College. She is the daughter of John Mueller.
Morrow plans to attend Kent State University. She is the daughter of Kent Morrow.
Mueller and Morrow received the scholarships based on financial need, academic records and personal achievements.

EVANS CITY — Evans City Middle School Band performed for adjudicators at the High Note Festival at Carnegie Mellon University in May and earned a superior rating, the highest rating awarded, and a trophy for their performance.
Thirty-five volunteers from the ECMS fifth and sixth grade bands performed for the Evans City Memorial Day service at the Evans City Cemetery and were commended by Congressman Mike Kelly.
The band is directed by Tracy Glass.
