SV students shine at music festivals
JACKSON TWP — Sixteen students from the Seneca Valley School District will perform at this year's state competition.
Orchestra Two Seneca Valley students are tuning their strings for a state festival. Shawn Bliss, senior, and Jacklyn Ko, sophomore, will move on to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Orchestra through Saturday in Pittsburgh.These students joined other Seneca Valley instrumentalists in the PMEA Western Region Orchestra from Feb. 21 to 23 at Hollidaysburg Senior High School. More than 100 student musicians from more than 50 school districts participated in the PMEA festival.Students are led by Sarah Miller, secondary orchestra instructor.
BandSeneca Valley will be represented by 10 instrumentalists in the band portion of the PMEA All-State Festival. They are Luke Choban, David Choi, Eden Geis, Kyle Gragg, Jeremy Love, Olivia Otway, Elizabeth Salgado, Sean Scott, Ryan Sims and Brian Vogel.The students were selected based on their audition results at the Region I Band Festival held March 7 to 9 at New Castle High School. Students are led by Robert Matchett, Varden Armstrong, Robert Babick and Sara Snyder, secondary instrumental instructors.
ChorusFour singers — Cole Eckenrode, Ryan Lipscomb, Sarah McKinley and Sam O'Neill — will perform at the PMEA All-State Chorus Festival through Saturday in Pittsburgh.These students were selected based on their audition results at the Region I Chorus from March 20 to 22 at Greater Latrobe High School. Regional chorus auditions were held at district choir in February, which consisted of schools from Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. At those auditions, the top six in each section advanced to regional choir, where they were joined by auditioned students from Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties.Seneca Valley had representation in every voice part.Students are led by Aaron Magill and Bobi-Jean Alexander, secondary choral instructors.
