A fire Friday damaged this Alben Road home near Portersville. No one was injured and the cause of the blaze has not been determined. Volunteers from six companies responded.

PORTERSVILLE — No one was injured in a fire Friday morning that caused “significant damage” to an Alben Road home. The fire started shortly before 11 a.m. at 116 Alben Road.

Tim Saunders, fire chief for the Portersville Muddycreek Township Fire Department, said one person was home when the fire started, but escaped unharmed.

“As with any daytime fire, there was a challenge in getting manpower,” Saunders said. “But we scraped enough people together.”

Although no cause has been determined, the fire started in the attic. Firefighters used chainsaws to carve holes in the roof. The fire was extinguished around 12:30 p.m.

Alben Road and one lane of Route 19 were closed for the duration of the fire.

Fire crews from Unionville, Prospect, Harmony, Slippery Rock Borough and Scott Township, Lawrence County, assisted at the scene. Portersville EMS was also on hand.
