Official: Ice poses no threat to Parker
PARKER — After a particularly harsh winter, the ice on the Allegheny River seems to be past by the borough.
Fire Chief Rick Amsler said the only remaining ice is along the shore, adding it poses no real threat.
“The only problem would be if someone walks out on it for a picture or something stupid,” Amsler said.
The ice made its way down the river last weekend. Amsler said the water levels did rise but stopped before making it onto the road.
The ice caused some minor flooding in the area in late February.
Amsler said the amount of ice on the river was far more than he’s seen in recent years.
“It’s the most ice I’ve seen in 10 years,” he said. “It froze across the river twice. That just does not happen.”
Amsler said he was happy to see the stressful winter coming to an end.
“I think everyone in town is happy for it to be gone,” he said.
