Additionally, Tom brought up Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez and the state-owned Citgo . I agree with him that Chavez's behavior was disgraceful and that Citgo should be boycotted. I would also add that the US should enact an embargo on Venezuela in the same fashion and for the same reason that Cuba is under embargo: they have acted to damage US national security. Chavez has made overtures to Iran, North Korea, and has fashioned himself as a Castro-like figure and for the UN to give him a platform to spew his vitriol is beyond comprehension. Like Tom stated, the US should withdraw from the UN because it grants legitimacy to dictators like Chavez and Ahmadinejad. There can be no common ground between dictatorship and freedom.
