Body believed to be missing woman found
State police believe they found the body of a 56-year-old Center Township woman who has been missing for nearly two months.
A body was found Monday afternoon in a wooded area off a road several miles from the missing woman's home, authorities said. A positive identification is pending.
Laura Graham-Simonetti's family reported her missing Sept. 6. She was last seen driving from her house on Beechwood Boulevard.
Along with the body, state police said they recovered Graham-Simonetti's white 2012 Volkswagen Jetta on the same vacant property on Glenwood Way in Center Township.
Investigators said it appeared the body had been there “for a while,” possibly weeks.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday, police Cpl. Tim Morando said, but foul play was not suspected in the death. Findings of the autopsy were not immediately available.
The family reported that Graham-Simonetti disappeared the day before Labor Day after driving away from her home, traveling down Glenwood Way toward Route 38.
After Graham-Simonetti went missing, the family checked her online activity, and saw on Sept. 3 that she had purchased a train ticket to New Jersey set to depart later that day, but refunded it before the train's departure.
The body was found by chance after the owner was passing his property on Glenwood Way when he happened to notice a car that was not supposed to be there.
The vehicle was parked behind one of several buildings on the property where the owner does not live, Morando said. The owner eventually contacted police.
The car apparently had gone undetected for as long as it did due to the heavy foliage at the time Graham-Simonetti went missing.
“Once the leaves fell,” Morando said, “the car became visible to the property owner.”
A trooper inspected the car and identified it as belonging to Graham-Simonetti. The vehicle was locked and it was undamaged. A purse was seen inside it.
The officer conducted a “quick canvas of the area,” Morando said, and discovered the body about 25 yards from the car in a “wooded, overgrown area.” Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr made the death pronouncement.
Near the body, he said, police found what they believe were Graham-Simonetti's prescription medication and cell phone.
Police planned to search the car following the autopsy.
