Members of Unionville Volunteer Fire Company used a boat to retrieve pieces of drywall that fell into Lake Arthur from Route 422 on Tuesday afternoon when a trailer came loose from its hauler and went over the bridge.

Among emergency responders called to the scene of a trailer tumbling into Lake Arthur on Tuesday afternoon was Butler County Water Rescue Team 300.

No one was injured when a trailer carrying drywall came loose from its hauler at about 4:25 p.m. and tumbled off the bridge on Route 422 into the water.

But the water rescue team, along with Unionville Volunteer Fire Company and Moraine State Park rangers, helped to retrieve drywall that fell into the lake. State police and officials from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources responded as well.

“Park rangers were able to gather drywall,” said Mark Adomaitis, chief of Butler County Water Rescue Team 300. “Unionville had their boat there, and we were there to pick up some of the material.”

According to Adomaitis, the trailer sank too deep in the water for the responding departments to retrieve it, and it will probably need a special tow truck to get it out. However, the wall of the bridge remained intact, and the departments cleared the scene about 6:30 p.m. “They'll recover the trailer at a later time,” Adomaitis said.
