Father jailed on charge of strangulation

A Butler man is accused of choking his teenage daughter during a domestic dispute last week at the family's home on South Street.

City police arrested Jason D. Koblak, 43, on a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. He was arraigned on the charges and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Police said the 16-year-old victim appeared at the station about 5:10 p.m. Thursday to report that her father had assaulted her, according to court documents.

The defendant, she told police, confronted her about her Facebook account and then struck her in the face.

“He then began to strangle her by the throat,” documents said, “and at some point slammed her causing her to hit her head off of a metal bed frame.”

He allegedly started to choke her a second time, causing her to have difficulty breathing.

She recounted that Koblak let her go but “apparently strangled her a third time,” according to a police affidavit, “and yelled in her face.”

Police noted that the girl had injuries to her neck and upper left arm.

Koblak's preliminary hearing is set for June 16.
