Charlie-bird
There was some talk of Woolworth, but particularly, the parrot from the store. Charlie is indeed alive and well and just as talkitive as ever. My grandmother, Verna, worked at Woolworth for many years and when the store closed, she kept Charlie to take care of him. My grandmother is nearing ninety-years and although in very great health, Charlie was getting to be a hand-ful, so she gave charlie to her neighbor. Charlie spends his summers perched upon their porch greeting all who pass, and in the winter he enjoys a cozy warm house filled with loving people. My grandmother believes Charlie's age to be close to sixty, but he is just as charming as he was twenty years ago! I too, remember browsing the store with my mother and also getting special treats from my grandmother there, but especially visiting Charlie bird. He was the delight of every child that entered the store. It's funny how time is and how time's reach extends not unto fond memories. No matter how many years pass, these silly little childhood memories are only yesterday and the joys that they have placed in my heart truly are timeless. One thing that I have leant in life, and it is a lesson only time can teach, is that places change-people come and go, but if you have spent your time wisely and caringly, then your memories become a blessing and you realize that time in itself was created for love, and then it takes on a most prescious value exceeding the worth of all the gold on this planet. I would not trade those childhood moments spent with my mother and grandmother, or even Charlie, for anything this world has to offer. Take care and God bless.
