Bradys Bend — Members of the Bradys Bend American Legion Bishop-Madden Post 488 will participate in the national Wreaths Across America event at noon Saturday.

Members will place wreaths in front of the tank in the parking lot across from the Legion hall during a ceremony with the Ladies Auxiliary, the Civil Air Patrol and the Bradys Bend Legion Honor Guard.

“Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember those who served, honor their sacrifices, and teach our younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms,” according to media release from Post 488.

The wreaths are meant to honor veterans of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and POW/MIA.

Wreathes Across America is a national event that began in Arlington National Cemetery in 1992, according to WreathsAcrossAmerica.com. It spread to other locations, leading Congress to declare in 2008 that Dec. 13 is “Wreaths Across America Day.”
