Mercer County man charged in fatal crash after losing family in fire dies

A Mercer County man who was charged in a DUI in which an Allegheny-Clarion Valley teacher and a Butler man were killed has died.

According to a news release from Mercer County Coroner John Libonati, Aric Abrams, 47, of Clarks Mills, died Friday, Oct. 16, after jumping from an overpass.

According to the release, Abrams was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. on Interstate 79 at the Route 208/258 overpass in Springfield Township, Mercer County.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head, according to the release.

Abrams was facing homicide by vehicle and DUI charges after Sandra Marwick, 68, and Luke R. Mulford, 29, were killed in an Aug. 12 three-vehicle crash.

A preliminary hearing on the charges was scheduled for Nov. 18.

In April, Abrams’ wife and two children — Malinda Abrams, 48, Amelia Abrams, 16, and Leroy Abrams, 12 — died in a house fire.

Libonati said at the time all three deaths were accidental and caused by smoke inhalation due to the fire.
