Domestic Relations
I have not received a child support check from Domestic Relations in over a month. No, my child's father is not at fault. He is disabled, lives out of state, and receives Social Security on the first of each and every month. The S.S. check that my child receives comes on the third of each and every month. Sometimes, these checks arrive a day or two early if the third falls on a weekend or holiday. Never once has a S.S. check been late.
However, many times over the last two years, my child support has been late. Again, not the fault of my ex. Domestic Relations is supposed to attach the check he receives on the first for the agreed upon amount before he even sees it.
I was informed today by a Domestic Relation worker that, even though I have been receiving the check on or around the fifth of each month I can no longer count on getting it at any particular time. They will send it to me when they get around to it is the impression I got from the conversation. I might get a check every 30 days, or every 59 days or anywhere in between.
I have been dealng with Domestic Relations for over ten years and have always felt that they were on the side of my child. However, since this conversation, it is clear to me that they don't care when we get the money. They don't care that my child needs lunch money or new shoes. Somewhere, some office has our money and you can bet it is drawing interest. Who is going to get that interest? Not my child... you can bet on that.
