Robert “Bob” Nelson Gettings Jr. was born Jan. 24, 1951, at Allegheny General Hospital during a heavy snowstorm that resulted in his mother walking from their Northside home to the hospital to give birth. Bob passed away while sleeping in his recliner after dinner on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at the age of 75.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Nelson Sr., in 1975, and his mother, Maryann Alice Beck, in 2005. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen D. Donnelly; and a bluetick coonhound named Buford. Also surviving are his brothers, Ralph, with his wife Millie, in Florence, S.C., and Timothy, residing in Philadelphia. Bob also has two children from his first marriage, a son, Robert Nelson Gettings III; and a daughter, Jessica Leigh. Robert III lives with his wife, Kelly, and sons, Robert Wayne, Michael and Thomas, in Cranberry Township. Jessica lives in Missoula, Mont., with her husband, Aaron Farseth, and their son, Peter. Jessica’s adult daughter, Sophia, lives in Florida with her husband, Brandon Elman.

GETTINGS — The family of Robert “Bob” Nelson Gettings Jr., who died Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, will welcome friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at KING FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park.

Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Reid Moon officiating.
