County woman injured in crash

Vehicles collide on Route 58

DELAWARE TWP, Mercer County — A Butler County woman was one of two people seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash on Route 58, authorities said.

Roxanne M. Dobson, 61, of Boyers and Barbara S. Kish, 54, of Mercer were both flown by medical helicopters to different hospitals following the wreck in west central Mercer County. Their conditions were not known this morning.

State police said Dobson was northbound on Route 58 just south of Oniontown Road about 2:40 p.m. when her 2010 Subaru Forester drifted across the solid yellow line and into the oncoming lane.

The left front of Dobson’s sport utility vehicle struck the left front of a southbound 2000 Chevrolet Silverado that Kish was driving.

The “violent impact,” a police report said, caused the SUV to become momentarily airborne and spin 180 degrees counter clockwise. The pickup truck was pushed into the guardrail before traveling back across the road.

The collision left both drivers’ legs pinned in their vehicles. Volunteer firefighters from Fredonia, Transfer and Hempfield Township used hydraulic tools to extricate the woman.

Dobson and Kish both were wearing seat belts. The police report described their injuries as “major.”

Medical helicopters landed in a field just north of the crash and flew one of the women to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh and the other to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

The road was shut down in both directions for nearly two hours during the police investigation.
