New member takes Seneca board seat
JACKSON TWP — Susan Harrison took her seat on the Seneca Valley School Board Monday night a few months earlier than expected.
The board voted for Harrison to take over the Region 3 seat for the remainder of Robert Hill, Jr.’s term, which ends on Dec. 1.
After 16 years on the board Hill resigned Sept. 14. Hill stated his resignation was for professional reasons and because his term was nearly up.
Harrison, 59, of Cranberry Township is the only person running for the District Region 3 seat, and she would have taken her seat in early December after the Nov 3 election.
Board President Eric DiTullio said typically the board would ask residents to submit letters of interest.
“Due to the fact Mrs. Harrison is the only candidate on the ballot we have asked her to come and be seated immediately with discussion and approval of the board,” he said. “We do that because she is the only one that is on either the Republican or Democratic side of the ballot.”
Harrison has been a resident of Cranberry for 26 years and has been a math teacher in the New Brighton School District in Beaver County for 18 years. She also is on the Cranberry Public Library board.
Superintendent Tracy Vitale welcomed Harrison to the board, saying, “I welcome the fact that you have an educational background and a desire to serve.”
