Zelienople council announces appointments for board seats

ZELIENOPLE — Appointees to boards in the borough were announced at borough council’s Monday evening meeting.

Some board members received a nod to remain in office while some new members were announced.

The most discussed change was for the Zelienople Airport Authority. Ralph Geis, who is a borough council member, did not express interest in remaining on the authority.

He served one five-year term on the authority.

Fellow council member Don Burgess was nominated for the position.

Borough resident David Robertson also expressed interest in the vacant seat. But council decided to appoint Burgess, saying traditionally at least one council member is on the airport authority, although this is optional.

“It’s always been thought that it was good to have someone from council on the authority for communication between the authority and council,” council President Allen Bayer said.

Although the airport authority runs the Zelienople Airport, the borough owns the property and the buildings. The borough also appoints authority members.

Here are the other people appointed to boards:

• Paul Kremer, Western Butler County Authority for a five-year term

• Gregg Peffer, Civil Service Commission for a six-year term

• Carolyn Skillman, Zelienople Public Library board for a three-year term

• David Foreman, zoning hearing board for a three-year term.

All the appointments start Dec. 31, except for the zoning hearing board, which takes effect Jan. 3.
