Freeport OKs some change orders

BUFFALO TWP — The Freeport School Board on Thursday night approved a few change orders for its $3.6-million athletic stadium project, but rejected or held off decisions on others.

The board approved paying an additional $12,300 to DiMarco Construction to widen the curb around the field to allow posts for the field’s fence to be installed, $4,500 to DiMarco to install a roof track system at the concession stand to prevent wall cracking during temperature changes at the unheated building and $3,000 to ProGrass LLC for a colored field border and piping on end zone lettering.

On the last item, school board President Dan Lucovich noted the company will put a Yellowjacket logo in the center of the field for free.

The board tabled a request to spend $8,400 to install fencing to enclose the bottom part of the bleachers, which is required by building code, to prevent people from climbing underneath them.

Lucovich said that cost seems high so the board held off a decision to see if it could be reduced.

The board rejected motions to pay $13,900 for signs at the stadium and around the campus and to pay $2,100 for extra electrical outlets at the concession stand.

Lucovich said neither of these items is needed right away, so the district will work to see if it can get these items at lower prices from other bidders.
