An Evans City man, charged with assaulting his girlfriend before two Good Samaritans stopped the attack, pleaded guilty in Butler County Court on Wednesday.

Nicholas A. Brittner, 29, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor simple assault before county Judge William Shaffer.

The plea agreement calls for a sentence of probation, completion of anger management classes, fines and community service. He is to be sentenced Nov. 2.

Brittner was initially charged with misdemeanor simple assault, harassment, ethnic intimidation, strangulation, disorderly conduct and summary public drunkenness after an incident on Feb. 22. The remaining charges are set to be withdrawn as part of the plea.

Adams Township police filed the charges after an incident on Crider Road, where Brittner allegedly choked his girlfriend, Ashlee Morrison, 26, and threw her on the ground.

A motorist saw “a woman running from a man” and stopped to help, police said. Morrison asked the woman to “stay with her so Brittner would not hit her any more,” according to court documents.

Brittner then caught up to the women and a second motorist reported seeing Brittner grab Morrison “by the throat” and “shaking her in a violent manner,” documents said.

That driver got the victim and the other woman into his vehicle and drove to the nearby MedExpress clinic, where they waited for police.

Morrison told officers that she and Brittner had been drinking at a bar on Crider Road. When she went to leave, he became angry, police said.

Police noted in their report that Morrison had no visible injuries.

Brittner was arrested at the scene and later arraigned on Feb. 23. He posted $3,000 bail that day.
