PARKER TWP — A worker with a gas pipeline company was injured Wednesday afternoon when a tree fell on him in woods along Eldorado Road, authorities said.

Volunteer firefighters had to carry the man out of the woods and use a utility vehicle to get him to a medical helicopter, which flew him to an unknown Pittsburgh hospital.

Neither the man’s name nor his condition was known this morning.

The man was part of a small crew clearing timber to allow the company to install a right of way for a gas pipeline, said Jason Miller, assistant chief for the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department.

The project is about 300 yards from Eldorado Road near Annisville Road.

While the four- to five-man crew was using power saws about 1 p.m., a tree came down and struck the man.

“It was a medium- to large-size tree,” Miller said. He guesses it was one foot in diameter.

The other employees got the tree off their co-worker. Emergency crews including Petrolia EMS and the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department arrived a short time later.

Paramedics attached an IV and helped stabilize the man, who was conscious and talking, authorities said,

The man, who was in pain, was placed in a Stokes basket and firefighters carried him to the Chicora VFD’s utility vehicle. He was driven to a nearby field where the helicopter landed.
