In reply to Lori from VA and Kate

ameshaa@aol.com

For the record, I have never proposed people not be able to express their personal opinions on any subject (even if they are religiously based). What I have been trying to convey is that personal opinions based on religion have no place in secular government policy, only in a theocracy. I agree with the sentiment behind Lori from Virginia's opposition to the use of tax dollars to fund something she finds abhorrent, however in today's society the issue is a little more nuanced. I don't believe the government should be funding any type of healthcare, as it should be an entirely private enterprise free from government meddling. Medicare and Medicaid should be dismantled. But today, the US is far from that ideal and the government can not pick and choose which type of family planning agency it will fund based on religious sentiments. That is the thrust of my argument. In reply to Kate: while I do enjoy writing pieces for various periodicals, I am employed full time.
