In the Sept. 9 Butler Eagle article “Callery fire company asks for additional funding, 3-year contract from borough” (Page 1), my kudos to Assistant Fire Chief Randy Hoffman for his statement concerning small games of chance.

He is correct that many fire companies across the county are operating online raffles in violation of the small games of chance law. Hoffman’s position is commendable. He does not want the Callery Volunteer Fire Company to “risk running afoul of Pennsylvania’s ‘Small Games of Chance’ law.”

Others should follow suit, pending any legislation passed in Harrisburg to update the 1988 Small Games of Chance Act.
