CONNOQUENESSING TWP — It was a bold caper.

Two thieves made off with four riding lawn mowers — valued at a combined $55,742 — from an equipment store on Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township, state police said.

But that was just part of the crime.

The crooks also stole the truck and trailer used to haul away the mowers, according to investigators.

Police said Tuesday that the May 8 crime remains under investigation. They are looking for two unidentified suspects, both white.

The pair struck first at M&R Power Equipment, police said, swiping a company truck — a 2007 Ford F250 SuperCab.

They drove it a few blocks on Route 68 to Viking Trailers, where they stole a 24-foot trailer — valued at $8,000.

The suspects, with the trailer hitched to the truck, drove back to M&R and loaded the mowers onto the trailer.

The truck was equipped with a GPS tracker and police eventually used the technology to trace it to Fulton County in south central Pennsylvania.

It was found abandoned in the parking lot of a closed business near Interstate 70 in Bethel Township, said state police at the McConnellsburg barracks.

The state police Auto Theft Task Force is assisting in the investigation.
