Butler woman allegedly fought to avoid arrest

A Butler woman allegedly fought tooth and foot to avoid being arrested Friday by Butler County deputies.

After her arrest, Carleisha D. Eackles, 20, of Butler, was placed in Butler County Prison on $30,000 bond, along with a fresh set of charges related to the altercation.

Eackles was charged by Butler County detectives with two counts of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

According to charging documents, the deputies visited Eackles' trailer Friday to arrest her on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court.

Eackles has two pending cases at the Common Pleas level, both involving assault charges to varying degrees.

On Monday, deputies told detectives that when they informed Eackles about the bench warrant, she allegedly removed her shoes and retrieved a can of pepper spray from her purse, which spurred about a 30-minute standoff between all involved.

According to the deputies, Eackles raised the can toward them, and one of the officers took the woman down to the couch, at which point she began kicking them both.

“A struggle ensued and Eackles proceeded to spray pepper spray in the face of both deputies,” said the investigating detective. “She also bit (one) deputy a total of three times and also struck him in the head.”

Detectives said all three of those bites broke the skin, and that deputy was taken later to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment. Detectives said they saw the injuries during their interview, which were on the deputy's arm and hand.

Detectives said the second deputy also reported being bitten, but he had a long-sleeve shirt that prevented the bites from breaking the skin.

“It took a substantial amount of force by both deputies and the use of several drive stuns with a Taser to get Eackles into custody,” detectives said. “Eackles also spit in the face of both deputies while she was being placed in their vehicle for transport.”

A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for May 11 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
