James Matson, of Butler, in his letter to the editor on March 28th states that gun ownership is a right due to the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution. He even mentions the militia portion of the amendment. He seems to be trying to separate the part about militia and the right to bear arms. This discussion has been going on for many years about whether the right to have a gun means you must also be part of a militia or not. That is why this topic is before the Supreme Court right now; trying to determine the actual intent of the writers of the amendment. Hopefully they can determine whether the original intent was for everyone to own guns if they wished or restricted it only the members of a militia (what is now our military. I hope we can all remain civil and let the lawyers fight this out instead of everyone starting to call each other names just because we disagree with their interpretation of the Constitution.
