Thank you John for your letter about the DMV. When I took my son for his driver's test, as we were walking in the door a girl his age came up to him sobbing and said good luck, that man is absolutely horrible. We just took it as someone who failed their test and didn't think much more of it until my son failed before even getting past the parallel parking and was belittled the entire time. I thought my son might be stretching his story a bit but on the second try he was belittled again and told that he didn't look behind enough failing again I started asking other parents as I had made my son drive a year before going for his test and knew that he was a good driver --- either he completely changed when I wasn't in the car or there was another problem as we soon found out was the case. After asking around I found many other similar stories mostly dealing with young men but also a few with young ladies. "Lucky" for us the two times we went he had the same rude man testing. Taking the advice of other parents, I took my son to the Mercer DMV and he passed with no problem. It was a night and day scenario, we were treated with respect and the man testing my son was extremely encouraging giving my son back the confidence that he really is a good driver. One of my friends did write a lengthy letter to the DMV with no response and unfortunately I see the same man at Butler -- so next year my daughter will go straight to Mercer for testing without even a thought of going to Butler. It is a shame to have to leave our county but I will not put my daughter through the same experience. Also, I appreciate the advice from James and will follow through with a letter to Harrisburg.
