Both Rick Devore and Reid Joyce deserve commendations for their letters to the editor regarding the secular nature of our government, a point disputed by State Representative Daryl Metcalfe and his supporters. Mr. Devore's quotation from former President Jefferson regarding The Religious Freedom Act of Virginia is very apt and would be instructive to Representative Metcalfe if he were amenable to reason, facts, and logic (which he likely is not). All religions are dangerous when intermingled with government power and Mr. Joyce's recounting of the Inquisition and other atrocities is testament to that fact. As he states, Muslim jihadists and Christian extremists are indistinguishable and each should be viewed as threats to the nation. Mr. Metcalfe has smeared the 12th district, as Gloria from Butler notes in her post, with his views. International companies that are contemplating locating there may think twice when they read what the area's elected representative in Harrisburg believes.
