Man missing after vehicle found on I-80
State police expect searches will continue into this week for an Armstrong County man whose vehicle was found abandoned Friday on the Interstate 80 bridge just outside of Butler County.
According to state police in Clarion, who are leading the investigation, the vehicle was found on the bridge, which is in Richland Township, Clarion County.
“The searches are still ongoing,” said Clarion Trooper Joshua Bauer.
According to state police, the family of Colt Snyder, 20, of Dayton, Armstrong County, said he was last seen leaving their residence about 4:30 p.m. Friday.Nearly seven hours later, a 911 call reported a stationary vehicle in the westbound lane of the bridge.“The person who called thought the car had crashed,” said Debbie Howell, a communications officer for the Clarion barracks.Upon arriving, authorities discovered the vehicle, a blue Subaru Impreza, was running with nobody inside.A check of the car's registration revealed it belonged to Snyder.Members of the state police and the Emlenton Fire Department began a two-hour search late Friday from the banks of the Allegheny River.“We couldn't search on the river because the water was too high,” Howell said.Parker Volunteer Fire Department and a state police helicopter joined the resumption of the search at 8 a.m. Saturday. After three hours and no sign of Snyder, it was called off.The search was conducted from both banks of the river from the bridge to Parker, a distance of six miles.“If the river permits, we hope to search by boat at the start of the week,” said Trevor Hile, Emlenton fire chief.Bauer said troopers largely have searched for Snyder through “roving patrols of the area” along the highway; however, they, too, have plans to ramp up efforts this week.“We're looking to get some dogs out there early next week and get helicopters up in the air,” he said Sunday.Snyder is Caucasian, 6 feet, 3 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds and has short brown hair and hazel eyes.He was last seen wearing a white long-sleeve shirt, a brown coat, black and white shorts and black and white shoes.Anyone with information is asked to contact Bauer at 814-226-1710.
