I have experience working in various daycares in the area. You are right no one has the right to yell at or put down a child, however, as a childcare provider you have a responsibility to have a safe and nurturing environment. If a child is doing something to endanger another child or he/she is not acting appropriate, then punishment needs to be given. If you have a number of children at the same time misbehaving and the only way to get a handle on the situation is to have them place their heads down for a minute or two, that is the least of your worries. Sometimes all it takes is one child who has a spirited personality, to challenge a caregiver and drive patience. Instead of critizing the $8.00 an hour employee, communicate with them and see if there is something either you can do with your own child or talk to other parents about behaviors. All it takes sometimes is mom or dad reinforcing the rules at home and following through with the proper punishment.

As for Butler teachers I have been in most schools as a sub. I can honestly say I have never heard a teacher scream or yell at their students. I have taught 2 weeks in an urban Philly public school. During that time I heard screaming on a daily basis from students and teachers. Count your blessings we live in an area with teachers who want to be with your children. Your children will get so much more out of school when you support teachers and other adults that care for your child, verses disrespecting them.
