I agree with letter writer Jeff Olen regarding the uselessness of the term "diversity" and often find that it is a codeword for the destruction of standards and objectivity. The political left, which often champions diversity for diversity's sake, is placed in an awkward position when someone like State Representative Daryl Metcalfe utters opinions that are too "diverse" from those that they find acceptable. As illustrated by Denny Scott's recent letter, Metcalfe's comments regarding religion have, thankfully, tested their limits. Would that Metcalfe's Democrat challenger John Olsnevich take Mr. Scott's approach, for Metcalfe's position on religion is clearly something that can not be rewarded by re-election.
