Donna Robinson, in her letter to the editor, repeats the easily debunked mantras of the Religious Right who seek to describe our nation as a Christian nation where no separation of church and state was intended and religious tests for offices are required. However,she also responds to my likening of Christian and Muslim theocrats with the statement that, "the god of the Islamic terrorists and the God of our Founding Fathers are not one in the same." I would argue--and both Christian and Islamic theology suggest--they are, in fact, the same concept. Islam arose from Judaism and Christianity, shares many of the same prophets and rituals, and only differs in that it criticizes Christians for straying from the "path". In fact, while Christians and Jews are considered 2nd class citizens under Sharia law, atheists and agnostics are given the lowest standing.

Also, on the subject of sexual education, I agree with those who support comprehensive sexual education as opposed to the atrocity of "abstinence only" education, which has done nothing but foster the spread of ignorance and sexually transmitted infections. "Abstinence only" education has done nothing to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies and is only designed as a gift to the Religious Right.
