Mike and Laurie's objections to my position that Islam and Christianity are not so different fail to account for the fact that Christianity has been tempered by Western Influence while Islam has shorn all semblence of Western influence, leading to its more extreme nature. A comparison of John Calvin's Geneva and a modern Islamic state practicing Sharia law will reveal few differences.

To expand on my disdain for "abstinence-only" education (which is likely a component of Sharia law), I would like to emphasive that education regarding abstinence should be part of a comprehensive sexual education curriculum--not its only component. Without education regarding risks from other types of sexual practices, the "abstinence-only" approach will not make a dent in sexually transmitted infection rates and will leave the populace in a state of ignorance.
