Bernstine GOP winner in 10th District contest
SLIPPERY ROCK — Aaron Bernstine, a Lawrence County businessman and farmer, cruised to an easy victory Tuesday in the Republican primary for Pennsylvania's 10th House District.
Bernstine, who was in a three-way race for the GOP nomination, called the win a product of the hard work that he and his campaigners had done in recent months, when the focus had been meeting voters and listening to their concerns about jobs, education and taxes.
“This is what happens when you put a lot of hard work in and spend time knocking on doors and talking with people and understanding the issues that are important to them,” he said.
In total, Bernstine won 5,142 votes, or 74.8 percent to win the Republican nomination.
Dawnlyn Valli of North Sewickley Township got 1,121 votes, 16.3 percent and Clifford Glovier of East Beaver got 607 votes, or 8.8 percent. Neither returned phone calls on Tuesday.
Bernstine pledged to make November's election about education, job growth and making sure the 10th District is better represented in Harrisburg.
He will face incumbent Democrat Rep. Jaret Gibbons in that race.
Bernstine called Gibbons a “good man” who has failed to aggressively represent the interests of the district while in the state House, and he has become “part of the typical status quo in Harrisburg.”
“It's not about somebody being a good person or any of those things, It's about, we need to go attack the problems that are troubling this district,” Bernstine said.
The 10th District includes Slippery Rock and Slippery Rock Township in Butler County and parts of Beaver and Lawrence counties.
