Flames damage Fairview garage

FAIRVIEW TWP — A fire that spread from an unattended pile of burning leaves damaged a garage late Wednesday afternoon.

The fire at the home of Lenny Livengood, 114 S. Fairview Main St., was knocked down by firefighters from Chicora, with the assistance of firefighters from Petrolia, Bruin and North Washington fire departments.

Chicora Fire Chief Cody Craig said Livengood noticed smoke coming from the chimney of the garage “a couple minutes” after he left the fire.

“We’re thinking debris got down in the chimney and caught whatever was down there,” Craig said. “The bottom of the chimney caught fire and that’s what caught the garage on fire itself.”

No one was injured, and Livengood said he had planned to demolish the garage next week.
